Oil interceptors

To remove oil and all kind of hydrocarbons from stormwater

An oil interceptor, also known as oil separator, is a device designed to remove oil and all kind of hydrocarbons from stormwater before it is discharged into the environment or sewer systems.
The primary function of the oil interceptor is to prevent pollution by separating these contaminants from wastewater, typically in industrial, commercial, and municipal settings.

Oil interceptors

Sotanks offers a large range of oils separators, from 1l/s to 500l/s of stormwater flowrate.

Our interceptors are made of Polyethylene (PE), GRP or steel. All our oil interceptors strictly complies with EN-858 standard : 5mg/l as a maximum of hydrocarbons at the oulet.

Key Features

01

Oil retention

Oil interceptors work based on the principle that oil and water have different densities. Since oil is less dense than water, it rises to the surface, while water sinks. The oil interceptor uses this difference in density to separate oil from water. Our oil interceptors are equipped with a coalescing filter, which optimize this principle of separation.

02

Design

These devices are typically installed in drainage systems also called SUDS : Sustainable Urban Drainage System. The wastewater enters the interceptor through a filter that facilitate the separation process. The clean water then exits the interceptor, while the collected oil is either removed manually or through an automatic pumping system. It is strongly advised to equipped the oil interceptor with an alarm device (available upon request).

03

Capacity

Our oil interceptors come in various sizes, from small units for restaurants or service stations to large systems for highways, parking or industrial plants. The total capacity of the interceptor is calculated to handle a certain volume of wastewater, ensuring that oils are effectively trapped.

04

Maintenance

Periodic maintenance is necessary to remove the accumulated oil and ensure proper function. In some systems, oil accumulates at the top of the interceptor and can be skimmed off throughout an additional operation of maintenance. Our devices are specifically designed to facilitate all maintenance operations.

By catching oil efficiently, our premium interceptors protect wastewater treatment systems and the environment from harmful contaminants.
